10 Black Women Who Can Help You Improve Your Sex Life

The stigma surrounding female sexuality is still very much alive and well — especially for Black women. When it comes to sexuality and pleasure, historically we are left out of the conversation altogether. Luckily there are 10 amazing Black women below who are changing the narrative. These women’s life’s work is to empower other Black women to embrace their sexuality without bias and judgment. 

Ev’Yan Whitney @evyan.whitney

Ev’Yan Whitney is a sexuality doula who helps women and femme-identifying people celebrate their sexuality and liberate themselves from sexual shame. She has a podcast called, The Sexually Liberated Woman, which is an amazing resource for women looking to reclaim their sensuality and sexuality — plus she offers one-on-one coaching for those looking to dive deeper into their own liberation. 

Shamyra Howard, LCSW @sexologistshamyra

Sexologist Shamyra travels and speaks extensively as a sex educator, has won international awards, and is the best selling author and creatress of the “Use Your Mouth Sex and Relationship Conversation Starter Cards” and the book, “Use Your Mouth: Pocket-sized Conversations to Simply Increase 7 Types of Intimacy in and out of the Bedroom”. If you’re stuck as to what to say in the bedroom (and beyond) Shamyra has the answers for you.

Samia Burton @sexualessentials

Samia Burton is a hands-on sex educator, who teaches people how to create the sex life they want by showing them how to do it. Samia owns the brand Sexual Essentials, which offers hands on sex workshops such as the infamous #MouthMasterClass #D*ckRiding101 and Sex Conditioning Workout. Samia’s workshops are centered around building confidence in the bedroom.

Dr. Donna Oriowo @annodright

Dr. Oriowo is a first-generation Nigerian American Sex and Relationship Therapist. Dr. Oriowo specializes in black female sexuality and is aware of the various aspects that impact Black women. She is also the author of the book “Cocoa Butter and Hair Grease” which focuses on the impact of colorism and texturism has on women

Marla Stewart @1marlastewart

Marla Renee Stewart, MA is a professional sexologist,sex/intimacy/relationship coach, speaker, and author. She is the owner of Velvet Lips, a sexuality education company. Marla has studied human sexuality for over 19 years, has educated over 20,000 people in over 13 years, given over 400 workshops, and have served over 100 clients in her private practice, all around the world. She co-wrote her first book, “The Ultimate Guide to Seduction & Foreplay” (2020) with Dr. Jessica O’Reilly and is currently writing a chapter and co-editing “An Intersectional Approach to Sex Therapy”, which is due to drop this year.

Amina Peterson @atltantra

Goody Howard is a world-renowned sexologist, educator, and consultant. She has dedicated her life to empowering people “through sexual exploration, education, and awareness.” Goody teaches sexual skill workshops, offers sex-positive professional development opportunities, and creates dope, sex-centered t-shirts. She layers her focus on pleasure and education with her energetic and engaging presentation style. Her mantra is “Be Good or Be Good At It!” and she is determined to normalize sex-positive conversations as a way to ease stigma and improve sexual responsibility.

Jimanekia Eborn @jimanekia

Jimanekia Eborn is a Queer Media Consultant, Comprehensive Sex Educator, and Sexual Assault & Trauma Expert. She is the host of Trauma Queen — a podcast mini-series for survivors of assault and our allies. The podcast focuses on uplifting voices in all communities and exploring our collective journey to healing. Jimanekia is also the founder of Tending The Garden, a healing retreat for survivors of assault of marginalized identities. Her passion is to assist and support those that are sexual assault survivors and those without access to comprehensive sex education. 

Dr. Lexx James @lexxsexdoc

Dr. Lexx James is the “couple’s clinician.” She is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and certified sex educator who is an best selling author, and keynote speaker, working to bring #ShameFreeSexEd to the masses. She assists in healing from relationship distance, intimacy challenges, depression, anxiety, grief, and trauma. Dr. James’ educational work teaches others about sex-positive comprehensive sexuality from an intersectional lens.

Reba Corrine Thomas @rebathediva

Reba Corrine Thomas is a pleasure-positive sex educator, cannabis advocate and CEO of Sexpert Consultants, a company geared toward bridging the gap in adult sexual health education through engaging workshops, online courses and events. Reba is a member of Women of Sex Tech and also serves as an ambassador for the American Sexual Health Association (ASHA) and Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington (PPMW).
