Black Love Weekend ended as we started, with love. As the sunset on Black Love Summit, the sunrise greeted us the next day at our inaugural Black Love Honors Brunch hosted by Niecy Nash, celebrating the contributions of luminaries across industries. New York Times Bestselling Author, Producer, and Minister DeVon Franklin received The Wellness Award for his dedication to spreading love, faith, and encouragement across social media, through his films, as well as his books.

If you follow DeVon on social media, you know that despite his recent divorce, he’s still an advocate for singles finding love and not losing hope. Moments before the brunch began, the television executive shared words of wisdom, and a prayer for singles everywhere.

“The struggle in love comes down to the loss of hope. So the belief that “I’ve been single for this amount of time, I can’t catch a break — whatever the negative narrative is then diminishes the hope. So my prayer for someone who is losing hope as a single person is to pick that hope back up. It doesn’t matter if you are gone through 1,000. All you need is 1. And become the love you wanna receive. Please don’t let someone reject you out of believing the very best for you is coming.”

When asked how we can share God’s love which is also an extension of wellness for many people, Franklin said this:

“God is love, and when you really think about it in that context, when I am giving someone love, in theory, I’m giving them God. So if I want to give someone God, that means I gotta have a good relationship with God myself. So often when we think about love externally but loves start here. The more that we’re in touch with God and feel love ourselves, the more we’ll be able to love.”
