Latham Thomas’ work in maternal health space stemmed from her own birthing experience. After giving birth to her son, Fulano, in 2003, she realized how much work needed to be done to help women reclaim birth as a sacred and empowered experience. A Columbia University and Institute for Integrative Nutrition alum, Latham has since become a maternity lifestyle maven, a world-renowned wellness leader, and a master birth doula changing the game for women everywhere. Oprah even named her one of her Super Soul 100—so you know she’s the real deal.

With two best-selling books (Mama Glow: A Hip Guide to a Fabulous and Abundant Pregnancy and OWN YOUR GLOW: A Soulful Guide to Luminous Living and Crowning the Queen Within), a membership on the TUFTS University Nutrition Council, and a spot on the Well + Good Council, Latham has her hands in all things Black women’s wellness, pregnancy, and self-care. She’s even got a meditation program, BEDITATIONS: Guided Meditations and Rituals for Rest and Renewal, because let’s be honest—Black mamas deserve ALL the relaxation.
Latham’s wellness hub The Soft Space isn’t just a place to chill—it’s a dream manifested, a space designed to nurture, celebrate, and uplift Black women. Whether you’re hosting a baby shower or just looking for a peaceful retreat, The Soft Space is here for all your needs. The Mama’s Den hosted a meet up with Black mamas at the wellness space in January that left guests feeling empowered and joyful.

Latham poured her heart (and some serious Black Girl Magic) into making this space a reality, with the help of her event planner, Kathy Romero, and the talented team at CS New York Design. The space, just a block from the Bedford Ave L train station, is already buzzing with dope programming, community events, and retreats.
If you want to be part of the magic, make sure you’re on Mama Glow’s mailing list so you don’t miss out on the incredible offerings at The Soft Space. And if you’ve ever thought about stepping into your power as a doula, Mama Glow is ready to guide you there.
Black women face higher risks during pregnancy and childbirth due to systemic racism in healthcare. Having dedicated, culturally competent support can literally be lifesaving. Mama Glow is a movement that’s making sure Black mamas thrive, reclaiming our traditions of birth work, and setting a new standard for maternity care.
Whether you’re thinking about starting a family, already on your motherhood journey, or just want to be surrounded by the nurturing energy of other Black women, Mama Glow and The Soft Space are here for you. Because Black motherhood should be celebrated, protected, and, most importantly, glowing.
