Turn Up the Sexy: Black-Owned Size-Inclusive Lingerie Brands to Support for Valentine’s Day

I’ve always been fascinated with lingerie. The way people felt after putting it on, at least in the movies, seemed to empower them; it was the perfect garment to set the mood and make them feel great. Over the years, I have added to my collection, playing with colors, textures, and patterns. Even with these new additions, I felt like something was missing. If I’m honest, I wanted the pieces to be more comfortable and fit my curves, also, find nude shades that actually matched my skin tone. In the last few years, things have evolved. Leading the charge to disrupt mainstream lingerie brands are Black-owned brands, offering a range of size-inclusive silhouettes and flesh tones that match different melanated bodies As we prepared for Valentine’s day, here are 8 Black-owned lingerie brands that belong in your intimates drawer.

Founder of Shecurve Camilla Aidoo says: “It is about inclusivity and embracing womanhood. I launched Shecurve because I found that there was a lack of inclusive imagery within the lingerie industry. I wanted to create something to which women of all shapes could relate.” The designs celebrate femininity with their delicate features, mostly made of silk that beautifully drapes over your curves.

Anya Lust’s mission is to encourage women and couples to live passionately, love deeply, and be open to exploring new things. Whatever they may be. Their luxury lingerie ranges from designer bras to plus-size lingerie and a bondage collection. I especially love their peekaboo bras and panties. They even have a Marriage Bootcamp Edition to explore luxury lingerie and enjoy with your lover.

“Black women make things cool but remain outsiders to leadership and business opportunities in fashion. Love, Vera is going to change that.” From their lips to God’s ears. Each piece is bolder than the last, with sexy lace and garters that go up to a size 3x/4x. The Love, Vera nude collection is giving skin.

IHUOMA is a luxury lingerie brand that celebrates the beauty of the modern Black woman. Each collection pays homage to a goddess. The Goddess Oshun Gold Collection is the epitome of luxury, featuring a gold silk bra and briefs that would make anyone feel like a queen. The Divine Feminine collection is my fave — the embroidered designs are breathtaking.

Liberté

Founded in 2019 by veteran model Amber Tolliver, Liberté is a premium lingerie brand centered around thoughtfully constructed garments and undergarments. Each piece is made from ultra-soft Italian lace that accentuates your natural shape. The best way to describe this collection is a daily indulgence to make you feel good, always.

Savage x Fenty

This collection needs no introduction. One of the reasons I love Savage x Fenty is its range, creating lingerie for every body. There’s a color for every mood and style for every occasion. Founder Rihanna understood the assignment and how to give the girls what they want (and did not know they needed).

SUZY Black NYC

Founder Diondra Julian feels nothing speaks to feminine power like a beautiful piece of lingerie. I couldn’t agree more. You may have seen the Aubrey Asymmetrical set on the season finale of Insecure, worn by Issa Rae, who looked incredible in it.
