HBCU Love: Leo & Jai Rachal - Grambling State University
Leo & Jai Rachal’s wedding

We met in Tiger Express. We are college sweethearts, but our story is far from typical. What started as innocent puppy love at 17 and 18 grew and matured to happily ever after at 34 and 35. We literally grew up together. From me crossing into greek life and him thinking about it but deciding not to buy that bucket of chicken (iykyk). To graduation, and him relocating to TX to be with me, breakups and makeups, to us finally saying “I Do!” Our wedding was LIT! We are the epitome of opposites attract. He’s from the country and I’m from the city. We’re the black version of green acres. He introduced me to riding horses at trail rides, mudding, I even posed with a cow at the county fair. I had him pull over on the side of the road so that I could steal some cotton. I had never seen it growing in a field before, so I took some for the culture. I considered it a small token of reparations lol. He’s also the reason I bought my motorcycle. He empowered me to ride beside him and not just behind him. I’ve inspired him to travel and try new cuisines. And even though he’s sometimes reluctant to try some of the excursions, I think he secretly enjoys me enticing him out of his comfort zone. We’re each other’s best friends and biggest cheerleaders. We motivate and encourage one another. We started our LLCs. We are very happily married (1 year, 7 months) and we purchased our first home 2 months ago. We plan to start our family in the fall. Our union helps others realize how DOPE black love and marriage really is!”
