Safe Spaces: Communities for Black Mamas to Follow

It’s almost Mother’s Day! Finding community as a Black mother whether single, married, one kid, six kids, angel parenting, adopted, overwhelmed, or thriving, is now easier than ever! Safe spaces are being created daily for mamas like us, but the truth is, it wasn’t always like this. I remember being pregnant at 22 with my daughter. I was the first of my friends to have a baby, and there was no one to talk to who understood what I was going through. When I needed encouragement or even a laugh, I wish I belonged to a group that offered that.

The good news is that there are now communities that hold space for the many aspects of motherhood and the different types of mamas that exist. Communities are pathways to healing, and these spaces for Black moms are doing just that. They’re doing the work to provide a space for Black mamas to be authentically ourselves, from online forums and podcasts to meet-ups and events. This weekend as we honor mothers, we want to honor them too. Alongside Black Love’s Co-Founder and Head Mama in Charge Codie Elaine Oliver, we’ve created this list of 15 communities supporting Black mamas daily.
