Gabrielle Union is shaking up Netflix this June with a sexy summer rom-com! Union stars in “The Perfect Find,” based on Tia William’s 2016 novel. After a messy public breakup and a high-profile firing, Jenna (Union) returns to New York to resurrect her fashion career. Knowing she’ll only get one chance to rebuild her reputation, Jenna swallows her pride and goes to work for cutthroat mogul Darcy (Gina Torres). But her comeback attempt gets complicated when she falls for her charming, much younger coworker Eric (Keith Powers) — who just so happens to be Darcy’s son! After putting everything on the line for her career, Jenna must decide if she’ll risk it all on a secret romance, and find out if she can have a future with Eric despite their generational divide. The film also stars Aisha Hinds, DB Woodside, Janet Hubert, and Alani “La La” Anthony.

“The Perfect Find” is directed by Numa Perrier from a screenplay by Leigh Davenport and produced by Glendon Palmer, Gabrielle Union, Jeff Morrone, and our very own Black Love Co-Founders, Codie Elaine Oliver and Tommy Oliver! When the news was announced, Tommy shared with his Instagram followers, “Y’all know my wife is a bad lady right? This movie #THEPERFECTFIND WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED WITHOUT HER!” Yes, y’all read that right! Elaine Oliver fell in love with the author’s storytelling in grad school, and after a view of the manuscript, the rest was history. Black Love talked with our CEO about her passion for the film and why this story felt so special to her and Tommy.

“I fell in love with Tia Williams’s book “The Accidental Diva” when I was in grad school, and I optioned it. That project hasn’t come to fruition yet, but I’m a fan of Tia and her writing, so as soon as she finished ‘The Perfect Find,’ she shared the manuscript with me, and I loved that as well! We optioned it, and with Gab as everyone’s first choice, Tommy and I gave her the book in 2016. It’s been a long road, but we are so happy for the world to see this movie now.”

Additionally, the Confluential Films producer says that Union’s portrayal of an older woman taking a chance is something that she’s excited to see on screen. “I loved seeing this older woman/younger man dynamic play out and the will they/won’t they of it all. It’s not a character we get to see a Black woman play, and I absolutely loved the backdrop of fashion, which Numa really brought to life in the film.”

We couldn’t agree more. This trailer radiates an essence of Black love and hope for women to be the choosers in their lives to the backdrop of sultry music, getting us excited for a fresh perspective on love that’s needed. #ThePerfectFindNetflix premieres on June 23rd, 2023.
