Barack and Michelle Obama’s Top Moments of Black Love at The DNC

Michelle and Barack Obama ended their first date eating ice cream in front of a Subway franchise at 53rd Street and Dorchester Avenue in Chicago. The spot, which is now memorialized in the Hyde Park neighborhood of the Windy City, is the setting of the beginning of one of America’s greatest love stories.

“On our first date, I treated her to the finest ice cream Baskin-Robbins had to offer, our dinner table doubling as the curb,” said Barack Obama, during an interview with O. “I kissed her, and it tasted like chocolate.”

Years later, the Obamas’ initial attraction has blossomed into an unyielding love. The pair constantly reminds us of the love we all want and desire with every public appearance. Most recently, the dynamic duo graced the Democratic National Convention stage to show their support for Vice President Kamala Harris. Check out these top moments at the DNC where the Obamas showed us the magic of Black love.

Our forever First Lady fired up the crowd in the best way possible, instilling hope and perseverance into every person listening. At the same time, she inspired everyone to “do something.”

From the moment that she walked onto the stage, she commanded the room and the attention of viewers worldwide. But, at the end of her electrifying 20-minute speech, her work was not done for the evening. Her next few words reminded everyone why the Obamas are still and will always be our favorite couple.

The Obamas Show Each Other a Little Love on Stage

In a now viral moment, the Obamas showed us all what true, timeless love looks like. The pride, admiration and love shared between the couple can be felt by everyone watching, making us all long for that kind of connection.

Barack Celebrating Our Forever First Lady

One of the things that we love the most about the Obamas is their boundless support for each other. They always stand proudly by one another’s side. As the former president walked onto the stage, he made sure to give his wife her flowers. From the proud grin plastered on his face to holding her back for one last standing ovation, Barack didn’t hesitate to take a few moments to celebrate Michelle.

Over 30 Years Later and Barack is Still in Awe of Michelle

Barack, like many of us, was left in awe after Michelle concluded her speech. After all, an extraordinary speech like the one Michelle gave is hard to follow. It’s a fact that he poked fun at during the beginning of his speech.

“I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling fired up,” he said. “I am feeling ready to go, even if I am the only person stupid enough to speak after Michelle Obama.”

This small moment on the DNC stage proved that even after more than 30 years of marriage, Barack is still not immune to the wonder that is Michelle Obama.

Barack Remembers the Formidable Marian Robinson

During his speech, Barack paid special tribute to Michelle’s mother, Marian Robinson, who passed away in May.

“I don’t know that anybody has ever loved their mother-in-law any more than I love mine,” he said. “Mostly, it’s because she was funny and wise, and the least pretentious person I knew. That and she always defended me with Michelle when I messed up. I’d hide behind her.”

He spoke about her in the highest regard, framing the ending of his speech around the morals that she, along with his grandmother and the parents of Kamala Harris and Tim Waltz, possessed. The bond that he shared with his mother-in-law serves as a reflection of the love he has for Michelle. It’s one that is built on mutual respect and admiration.
