Building Black Love as a Young Entrepreneur

Building Black Love as a Young EntrepreneurEntrepreneurship and personal growth are often intertwined. As the owner of Screen Indie in Turrentine Studios and a proud graduate of Howard University, I’ve come to realize that success isn’t just measured by business achievements but also by the depth of personal relationships, particularly love. It’s this understanding that fuels my passion for building a life rooted in not only professional ambition, but also meaningful connections.

Growing up as the oldest son in a single-parent household, I witnessed firsthand the complexities of family dynamics and the impact of role models, or the lack thereof. Now, as the uncle of three nephews who are being raised by a single mom, I carry a profound understanding of the importance of family and the narratives we build around them. These experiences shape my vision of what it means to be a man in today’s society. It is crucial, especially for Black men, to shift the narrative, show up, and break generational curses. While I may not have been shown certain ideals during my upbringing, I am determined to be the man I needed and longed for during those formative years.

I recognize that true love, like true success, requires daily effort, commitment, and accountability. It’s essential to find a partner who is equally invested in the relationship. Often, there’s a misconception that the onus of nurturing a relationship falls solely on women. However, I believe that men must also be intentional in their dating approach.

At 33, with significant accomplishments under my belt, I’m very intentional about dating for marriage. I want to build a future that aligns with my ambitions and values, ensuring that both my partner and I are committed to the journey ahead. The foundation of any successful relationship lies in mutual respect. For Black men, that means respecting Black women and holding ourselves and our peers accountable. I don’t believe in wasting anyone’s time in relationships because time is a precious commodity. This perspective shapes how I date and influences how I conduct business.

Leading with respect and accountability in my relationships sets the tone for how I engage with clients, partners, and employees. It’s about creating a legacy of integrity, compassion, and support for one another. As an entertainment executive and cinematographer, I strive to foster an environment that mirrors these principles. The creative industry is a powerful platform for storytelling, and I believe that our narratives must reflect the richness of our experiences as Black men and women.

When we engage with each other genuinely, we pave the way for success on both personal and professional fronts. In the dating landscape, I make it a priority to be clear about my intentions from the start. This clarity allows me and my partner to navigate the relationship with purpose. It’s about establishing a foundation of trust and understanding. I want to create a safe space for love and growth.

Relationships thrive when individuals feel secure to express themselves without fear of judgment. Encouraging open communication and vulnerability allows both partners to connect on a deeper level. I have learned that true love flourishes when both individuals are willing to grow together. This means supporting each other’s dreams, challenging one another to become better versions of ourselves, and celebrating successes, no matter how small.

In the intersection of love and entrepreneurship, I find a unique opportunity to redefine success. It’s about building a future where Black love is celebrated, relationships are nurtured, and generational curses are broken. Ultimately, it’s about crafting a life filled with meaningful connections and a legacy that inspires others to do the same. By embracing these values, we can create a brighter future not only for ourselves but for the generations to come, ensuring that love and success go hand in hand in our community.
