When it comes to finding the perfect hairstyle for your wedding, there are a lot of options to choose from. The main goal is to pick the hairstyle that is just right for you. That is why Black Love decided to go to the experts. We spoke with celebrity hairstylist Kim Kimble, who knows everything you need to know about the best hair looks for those special occasions.
“I started out by getting into film and television. With my first film, ‘BAPS,’ Robert Townsend gave me the opportunity to work on set, and from there, I was able to work with a lot of celebrities. I met Beyoncé on the Robert Townsend movie ‘Carmen’ and then later on became her hairstylist for music videos. I even met Brandy on the set of ‘Cinderella’ and worked with her on ‘Moesha,’ as well.”
While growing up, Kimble loved getting her hair done. She would always like to try new hairstyles and coming from three generations of hair stylists, she had the knack to make other people’s hair dreams come true.
“Hair equals confidence to me. I learned this when I started in the salon. I would see my clients transform in the chair. How powerful it was. I have seen that with celebrities too. They get this boost of confidence, and they transform into the character they are playing or just a better version of themselves. The power of beauty.”
With over 30 years of experience, Kimble has worked with some of your favorite A-list stars like Beyoncé, Zendaya, Mary J. Blige, Kerry Washington, and Shakira. Kimble has so much knowledge on the best hairstyle to rock with that she recently teamed up with The Knot, where a lucky winner will receive two complimentary in-person hairstyling sessions for their wedding day. This exclusive opportunity was through The Knot Vendor Marketplace and definitely something I need in my life when I walk down the aisle.

There is an indescribable feeling when we get our hair done. There is a magical shift that happens, and we suddenly feel like we can conquer the world. Your wedding day should make you feel just like that. According to the wedding hairstyling expert, Fall is one of the best seasons for wedding hair. So, when picking a specific look for your big day, Kimble suggests that the hair should represent exactly who you are and bring out the best in you. There is an indescribable feeling when we get our hair done. There is a magical shift that happens where we suddenly feel like we can conquer the world. Your wedding day should make you feel just like that. How your hair looks should not only compliment your dress, but it should showcase who you are as a soon-to-be-wife and give you the chance to feel radiant all day long.
Kimble suggests that these three top looks will not only make you feel beautiful and confident but will make you feel like a queen.
The Updo
The classic updo is a great choice for your wedding look. Whether you have a slick bun or a basket of curls, the updo gives you that elegant look. There are also other creative ways to make your updo stand out. You can add lovely hair accessories or any headpiece to really pull everything together. The pros to having an updo is that it is low maintenance and you will not have to worry about your hair getting too messy as the day goes on. On the upside, though, if you do wish to let your hair down when it is time to party, go for it!!
The Half-Up, Half-Down
For a woman who likes to have it all, the half-up, half-down look is probably a great fit for your wedding hairstyle. With the half up half down, you get the best of both worlds. You are able to have your hair out of your face, while also showcasing how beautiful your hair falls with no compromise. This look is very versatile and anyone can achieve it. Whether you have a short bob or hair that hangs to the middle of your back, you can rock this look with no problem.
The Body Wave
The thing about having different options for wedding looks is that you have the right to use your natural hair or have a protective style. Protective styles using extensions or weaves are a great way to keep your own hair intact while still feeling confident in transforming into a stunning bride. The most popular look has been the body wave. The body wave look is a great wedding hair go-to because even when the curls fall a little, you can still have an amazing hairstyle that will minimize tangle and shedding. You are also able to achieve this hairstyle after the wedding for a few weeks, which makes all the preparation beforehand worth it.
