In the Black Love offices, India Arie’s Brown Skin is one of our anthems. And when it comes to self love (See: I Am Not My Hair) and idyllic romance (The Truth), she is committed to highlighting Black Love with her music. Today, India’s latest musical love story Steady Love debuted its video with rapper, record producer and activist David Banner as her co-star and the two portray a relationship that is equal parts sexy and ordinary – that’s real!
What did India and David have to say about this video and about Black Love?
India: “I wanted to depict a grown, committed, loving black couple doing life together and LOVING each other through the ups and downs of life. I wanted to work with David because well, he’s David Banner! He set the tone immediately and he was a true joy to work with – bringing professionalism, integrity and a regal bearing to the set.”
David: “I believe Black Love is essential in this world…but for the kids to believe it, they must first see it in us.”
We applaud India’s commitment to showing the strength, beauty, and power of Black Love and authentic romantic relationships. Right there with you, India!
