Top 5 Times Jay-Z Stood on Business About His Wife Beyoncé

Jay-Z has had “the hottest girl in the game wearing my chain” since 2001 and he’s been holding her down ever since. Jay-Z and Beyoncé are one of Hollywood’s long-lasting, most celebrated couples. The superstar pair, who wed in 2008, have built a media empire with their entertainment companies, Roc Nation and Parkwood Entertainment. They’ve created a beautiful family together, welcoming three children, daughters Blue Ivy and Rumi, and son Sir, and they’ve dominated the music industry with a combined 56 Grammys and over 160 tracks on Billboard’s Hot 100 charts, according to Billboard

While navigating all this success, The Carters have also rooted themselves in their marriage. The couple, who were notoriously private during the first few years of their relationship, frequently support one another at events and have collaborated on several projects together, including the No. 1 single “Crazy In Love.” They travel the world together, work together, play together, and most importantly, defend one another, if needed. Jay has come to Beyoncé’s defense on several occasions when the world wasn’t seeing her value, attacking her with ugly rumors, or attempting to minimize her accomplishments as a Black woman. Fresh off Jay-Z’s beautifully honest Grammys speech, check out top five moments Jay-Z spoke the truth about Beyoncé.

2024 Grammys Acceptance Speech

Jay-Z said what needed to be said at the 2024 Grammy Awards, and we are not mad at it! While accepting the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award for his contributions to the music industry, Jay-Z took a moment to call out the Recording Academy for never awarding Beyoncé the Grammy Award for Album of the Year, despite her record-breaking, chart-topping success.

“I don’t want to embarrass this young lady [Beyoncé], but she has the most Grammys than everyone and never won Album of the Year,” Jay said with daughter Blue Ivy by his side. “So even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work. Think about that: The most Grammys. Never won Album of the Year. That doesn’t work. Some of you gonna go home and feel like you’ve been robbed. Some of you may get robbed. Some of you don’t belong in the category.”

“When I get nervous I tell the truth,” he added. Beyoncé did not comment on her hubby’s call-out, but smiled during his acceptance speech. We love to see it!

Renaissance Recognition

Beyoncé embarked on her stunning, affirming, critically acclaimed Renaissance World Tour in 2023, and the BeyHive couldn’t get enough. Fans from across the globe flocked to see Queen Bey live on stage with the tour earning over $579 million at the box office. Not everyone was happy to see Bey shine, however. Trolls soon popped up on social media comparing Beyoncé’s tour with Taylor Swift’s Eras World Tour, which occurred during the same year. The constant comparisons between the two ladies felt unwarranted and Beyoncé’s husband, Jay-Z, agreed. The rapper went to bat for his wife in a 2023 interview with Gayle King for CBS Mornings, saying, “My wife, I know how hard she works. For me, it’s her best tour. It’s hard to really compare [the tours], because they all have their different things of genius. But, this one to me felt like the most complete.”

He continued gushing about his famous spouse, praising her for making the tour “ inclusive” to all communities and cultures. “The story of her Uncle Johnny, and how everything just came about. Which goes from Johnny, the ancestors, to Blue,” he said, referencing Blue’s now-iconic dance routines at the Renaissance shows.

Parents Keeping Their Cool

Speaking of Blue, Jay has also had to defend Beyoncé from their very hip 12-year-old daughter. During the same interview with Gayle King, Jay opened up about how Blue doesn’t see her parents as “cool,” even though they are Grammy-winning superstars.

“Blue, she be frontin’ on me a little bit,” Jay said when asked by King if Blue thinks he and Bey are cool. “But, I catch her. I catch her in the corner, you know.”

He went on to share how Blue is slowly coming around to her parents’ coolness, asking them for occasional fashion advice. “Yeah, she’s come back [for some advice]. But there was a time where she was like, ‘Dad!’” he said, mimicking the move Blue makes when she feels embarrassed. “I was like, ‘I’m cool! I don’t know what you’re saying. At your house, your parents [are] cool.’”

We have to agree. The Carters are the coolest.

Beyoncé’s Pregnancy Rumors

The year is 2011. Beyoncé is expecting her first child with husband Jay-Z and couldn’t be happier. On every red carpet, she glows while happily rubbing her baby bump. After sitting for an interview where her bump looked slightly less obvious, Bey is bombarded with rumors that she is not really pregnant. The internet and social media streets swear up and down that the singer is faking her pregnancy and wearing a fake baby bump. Beyoncé’s husband is having none of that, however.

Jay quickly came to Beyoncé’s defense, shutting down the rumors as non-sense. “I don’t even know how to answer that,” Jay told Vanity Fair when asked about Beyoncé’s fake pregnancy rumors. “It’s just so stupid. You know, I felt dismissive about it, but you’ve got to feel for her. I mean, we’ve got a really charmed life, so how can we complain? But when you think about it, we’re still human beings. . . . And even in hip-hop, all the blogs—they had a field day with it. I’m like, ‘We come from you guys, we represent you guys.’ Why are you perpetuating this? Why are you adding fuel to this ridiculous rumor?”

Super Bowl Shenanigans

Part of being a celebrity means that the public is going to gossip about you and everything you do, and Beyoncé and Jay-Z are no exception. During the 2020 Super Bowl, the couple were spotted sitting down during Demi Lovato’s performance of the national anthem. Their choice to stay in their seats followed years of peaceful protests, led by former NFL star Colin Kaepernick, who decided to kneel during the National Anthem to bring attention to police brutality against Black men. Critics of the couple claimed that they were trying to make a disrespectful statement by staying in their seats.

Jay made sure to set the record straight, clearing both his and Beyoncé’s names while speaking at Columbia University. “[The moment] was not premeditated at all,” he explained. “We get there, and we immediately jump into artist mode. So I’m looking at the show. ‘Did our mic start? Was it too low to start?’ … ‘Is it too many speakers on the floor?’ So the whole time we’re sitting there and we’re talking about the performance. And then right after that, Demi comes out, and we’re talking about how beautiful she looked and how she sounded, and what she’s going through in her life for her to be on the stage and we’re so proud of her.”

He went on to add that he and Bey wouldn’t put Blue Ivy “in that position” to deal with trolls. Way to defend your girl, Jay!
