There’s been a lot of speculation about Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris and what she’s accomplished as vice president. Critics of her campaign have circulated misinformation about Harris, but supporters are using their platforms to spread the truth about her accomplishments and what she hopes to do if elected president.

Sirius XM radio host, bestselling author, and esteemed Democratic political strategist Reecie Colbert has been advocating for Harris and sharing the truth about her accolades since 2019. Colbert highlights essential information about Harris’ career journey from her tenure as San Francisco’s District Attorney to present day in a downloadable resource dubbed Reecie With The Receipts: VP Kamala Harris. She recently spoke with the Win With Black Women organization to further educate the public on Harris’ accomplishments as Vice President. Win With Black Women is a collective of Black women leaders throughout the nation coming together to support and advocate for all Black women through political policy. The organization was founded in 2020 by Jotaka Eaddy, who is a business executive, investor, and social impact strategist.

Eaddy and Colbert addressed critics questioning why Harris hasn’t already done what she is proposing to do during her time as vice president. In the video, Colbert provides the receipts on the Vice President’s economic policy platform. Colbert states in the caption, “The reality is the Biden-Harris administration actually has made progress on many of the items outlined in VP Kamala Harris’s proposals and I have facts and figures to back it up.”

Colbert begins the video by saying, “I’m just gonna breakdown the receipts, the numbers, and the dates that back up the fact that what Vice President Kamala Harris is promising and saying she’s going to focus on in her term as the president — as opposed to vice president — is not a pipe dream, but it’s a continuation of the work of the Biden-Harris administration.”

Colbert’s first point is that Harris will focus on the opportunity economy, which is the people’s potential to gain economic benefit. Colbert says, “She is planning to focus on the opportunity economy and that is leveling the playing field, that is building wealth within this country, and tackling poverty, which is something that you don’t hear presidential candidates talk about often.” Colbert then goes into the list of things that the Biden-Harris administration has accomplished.

Some of the accomplishments of the Biden-Harris administration include:

  • Passing the 2021 American Rescue Plan, which awarded $1,400 per person checks (stimulus checks)
  • Boosting the earned income tax credit from $543 to $1,502
  • Increasing the child tax credit from $2,000 to $3,600 and raising the age limit from 16 to 17

Because Colbert was speaking with Win With Black Women, she specifically pulled receipts of some of the ways that Harris’ policies have impacted Black people.

Here are some of the major ways the Biden-Harris administration has impacted Black people:

  • Kamala Harris has been an advocate for the Black maternal mortality disparity and she expanded Medicaid postpartum coverage from 60 days to 12 months
  • Cut Black child poverty in half in 2021 and provided relief to over 9 million Black children
  • Expanded child independent care tax credit and secured a 30% increase in child care assistance funding in 2023 which benefited 38% of Black families
  • 2.6 million jobs were created for Black workers which achieved the lowest Black unemployment rate and the smallest Black-White unemployment gap on record
  • Increased Black wealth by 60% relative to pre-pandemic levels and that is the largest increase on record
  • Connected 5.5 million Black households to affordable high-speed internet to combat the digital divide
  • Facilitated the fastest growth in Black-owned businesses in over 30 years which doubled the share of Black business owners

The Biden-Harris administration has managed to accomplish some impressive initiatives so far. No amount of misinformation can take away from the fact that while Harris has been in office, there has been a great amount of change and steps taken toward a brighter future.
