Now, y’all know Black Love is REVOLUTIONARY! So much has been taken from us as a community, loving ourselves and giving love to our people is vital. But, Black Love is not just couples or romance. It’s self love, friendship, it’s partnership, and also parenting. Our parents are often our first love and this Father’s Day, Black Love wanted to shine a light on a few dads who we consider friends and who shared what Fatherhood means to them in our newest photo and video series, entitled Father Noir. Spoiler alert: It isn’t about being perfect. The first rule of the gig is to show up.

Father Noir is a visual memoir celebrating Black Fatherhood during the month of June conceived by my husband, Tommy Oliver, creator, producer, and cinematographer for Black Love. Photos are by both Erik Umphery and Tommy, and the video series is directed by Qasim Basir. As an extraordinary father to our 3 boys and also a talented filmmaker and photographer whose 2020 Black Lives Matter LA protest photos are headed to the Smithsonian this year, Tommy wanted to celebrate and collaborate with other Black fathers.
Go to FatherNoir.com to view all of the photos and videos of these remarkable dads, including Wayne Brady, Melvin Gregg, Jeff Friday, and our Black Love family Neil Brown Jr., Chris Spencer, Warryn Campbell, Bill Bellamy, and Tommy! Created in partnership with Shea Moisture Men with support from Lexus USA, we couldn’t be prouder of this work.
