As we end the month of May, it’s time to say goodbye to the 2024 season of Black Love’s celebrated mothers series, “Couch Conversations For Two: Mom’s Edition.” The series, which is available to watch in its entirety on Black Love’s YouTube channel, connects mom-friends and moms and their children through custom prompts written by the Black Love team.
Using the official “Couch Conversations For Two” card game, the conversations ranged from past memories to rules of the house and how moms inspire their children. In the final episode, which is available to watch now, co-host of “The Mama’s Den” podcast Ashley Chea and her 15-year-old daughter, Amirah, share a heart-to-heart conversation while playing the card game designed to get them talking.
Prompted by the questions, Amirah shares her perspective on what it’s like being a teen with a super thoughtful mom. She admits to wanting more screen time (don’t we all?), but she’s quick to gush about her mom’s creativity and how Ashley is always inspiring others to do more with their lives. It’s hard not to get emotional when Amirah says, “I feel like out of all my friends and everyone I know, I go to you first.”
The duo also debate about whether teens should be allowed to wear makeup and Ashley’s favorite memory with her daughter.
“It would have to be when you were little,” the “Mama’s Den” co-host tells Amirah about her most cherished memory. “You were just a little more carefree and I always want you to tap back into that. But it’s when we used to travel all the time with your dad. Just the three of us, and we would go on road trips and we would sing the whole way in the car while your dad would just be driving with his headphones on, not listening.”
