The Black Girl Magic Dinner at The Gathering Spot on February 15

Black Girl Magic Day is February 15, and Black Love was on hand to celebrate all the special qualities that make Black women fabulous.

Black Love joined Black Girl Magic Wines and Mielle Organics for an uplifting Black Girl Magic Dinner at The Gathering Spot in South Los Angeles on Thursday, February 15. The celebratory event was an inclusive and affirming space for all Black women with empowering messages and prompts placed on the tables, such as “what’s something that you need but are afraid to ask” and “what is a misconception that people have about you?” The room was filled with soft pink, gold, and white decor, and beautiful floral centerpieces were displayed on the tables. A wide variety of Black Girl Magic Wines were served, along with a flavorful menu of salads, soups, and salmon.

Local Angelenos came out to enjoy the occasion with appearances by the hosts of “The Mama’s Den” podcast Melanie Fiona, Felicia La Tour, Ashley Chea, and Codie Elaine Oliver, who is also the co-creator of “Black Love.” Actress Yaya DaCosta, disability advocate Lauren “Lolo” Spencer, celebrity fitness trainer Hejira “Couch HJ” Nitoto, and “Black Love” Season 6 couple MyLin and Lindsay Stokes Kennedy were also in the building to share their special brand of Black girl magic.

Television personality and entrepreneur Tai Beauchamp co-hosted the event, alongside Oliver, sharing that Black girl magic is a “form of resistance and a form of existence at the same time, too.”

“When we think about resistance and existence and that dichotomy, that’s what we’re here celebrating in the form of sisterhood and black love,” she added.

Black women are not often given the freedom to be vulnerable and cherished and that is why creating spaces like the Black Girl Magic Dinner are important. When the world isn’t celebrating our magic, our fellow sisters can offer that uplifting environment and support. Beauchamp opened up about that love and empowerment during the event.

“Can I tell you, if I’m being deeply honest, I learn more of the power of being a black woman every single day,” Beauchamp said. “Because this is something that I don’t know if my grandmother or mother articulated to me. They probably did in their own way and in their own time, and you can’t really understand until you’re in it. So I learned things about being a Black woman. I learned that my strength, my ease, my power, my love, my grace, my peace, my self-love, the love that I have for other people organically, the love of community [comes from being a Black woman].

Attendees were gifted with a special Black girl magic swag bag that included Brown Girl Jane perfume, provided by Beauchamp’s fragrance brand, “Black Love is Beautiful” T-shirts, provided by Black Love, Black Girl Magic Wine gift cards, and more.
